The 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Just Got Upgraded

Welcome to the Age of the Big Display Screen

Once upon a time, the view screen on a vehicle’s infotainment system was quite small. That wasn’t a problem back when the entertainment options were limited to AM/FM radio and a tape deck. But as new technological changes bring new offerings to the vehicle market, the infotainment screen has gotten bigger.

Like seven inches bigger. Bet the engineers behind the eight-track player didn’t see that one coming.

To that end, engineers gave the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C Class a seven-inch central display screen, HD radio, and a five-speaker sound system as standard features. However, the driver also has the option of upgrading to a 10.25-inch central color display monitor.

Mark our words: if vehicles ever become capable of independent operation, the display monitor will be larger than the front window.

The vehicle also boasts Bluetooth®® phone/streaming audio options to go along with the Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto features. Dual USB ports also come standard, just in case the driver would rather listen to something that requires a data port. Finally, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class includes the option of a Burmester® surround-sound audio system with an integrated navigation system.

Self-Driving Tech

Many vehicles on the market already take advantage of semi-autonomous features such as assisted parking and self-braking systems. The 2020 C-Class has the goal of being the most advanced car in its class, and to do that, it introduces technology allowing the 2020 C-Class to negotiate parking garages and maneuver into free parking spaces through a smartphone app interface.

Think about that for a second. The 2020 C-Class allows the driver to operate the vehicle with an app. This is James Bond-level technology available to the discerning driver today.

Going Strong on all Terrains

With all the emphasis on new technologies in the 2020 C-Class, don’t make the mistake of thinking the vehicle can’t handle every kind of driving condition. The C-Class has been given new bumpers and cladding, increased ride height and stronger underbody to better adapt to any kind of terrain.

In other words, you don’t need to worry about speed bumps or uneven terrain as much as you did in the past. At the same time, the 2020 C-Class engine options range from four-cylinder to diesel with hybrid technology.

Advances in cruise control will allow the 2020 C-Class to keep pace with other vehicles at speeds topping out at 130 MPH, automatically decelerate when speed limits change, support active lane changes/keeping and full emergency stop and brake assist with cross-traffic functions.

Decelerating automatically when speed limits change will be especially useful when traveling on highways near residential areas when the speed limit can drop from 60 MPH to 50 to 40 to 30 within a 10-mile stretch.
